Ninth Update on Struklio

Our ninth update leads a new project with a quick win: name your app, then see it running full-screen in Review Mode before you begin editing. Project creation loses a step, and a guided tour issue on blank projects is fixed.

Update 1.0.9 is about the first five minutes.

The last few releases moved guidance into the builder and made starting an app faster.

1.0.9 goes one step further: the very first thing you do in a new project is make it yours, and the very next thing you see is that project running as a real app.

It also fixes a tour issue on blank projects that some of you ran into after 1.0.8.

Name It, Then See It Running

Previously, a new project dropped you straight into the builder with a lesson: tap a component, edit it, drag it, review.

That is useful, but it asks you to learn the tool before anything on the screen feels like yours.

1.0.9 puts a quick win first.

When you create a new app, you get a single prompt: name it. The field is pre-filled with a sensible default and already selected, so one keystroke is enough.

Then the app opens full-screen in Review Mode immediately.

Before you touch the builder, you see your named app running the way someone downloading it would.

From there, you exit the preview and the guided tour picks up exactly as before.

One Setup Step Instead of Two

With the new naming prompt inside the builder, the old setup form on the way in was asking for the same thing twice.

So we removed it.

Now you choose a template and go straight into the builder. The app is created the moment you tap, auto-named from the template, and the naming prompt inside the builder is the single place you personalize it.

The loading state also shows the instant you tap, so the short wait while a template loads no longer feels like nothing is happening.

Creating a new app after deleting one now feels the same as any other project, rather than sending you back through a longer flow.

The Blank Project Tour Fix

After 1.0.8, the guided tour could stop responding on a blank project once you added your first component.

The coach mark would stay pinned to the add button, and editing or dragging the component did nothing to move the tour forward.

The cause was in how the tour kept track of which component it was pointing at. It followed a component by its position on the screen, which could shift, and on an empty canvas it could briefly get sent back to the very first step and stay there.

In 1.0.9, every component you add now carries a stable identifier, and the tour locks onto that specific component instead of a position. The step that redirects you to the add button also became a one-way door: once the tour has moved past it, nothing can pull it back.

Add a component, edit it, drag it, review. No bounce.

Measuring Whether This Works

Alongside these changes, we added more detail to our product analytics.

We can now see where people fall out between opening the app for the first time and building something real, whether they come back the next day, and whether a new user actually reaches the point of having used the product rather than just looking at it.

That measurement is the point of the first-win changes above. If leading with name it, then see it running helps more people get to a finished-feeling app, the numbers will tell us, and we will keep pushing in that direction.

Why This Update Matters

Building an app from a phone has to feel different from sitting down at a desktop development environment.

There is less patience for setup, and more need for the product to feel rewarding early.

1.0.6 introduced the free trial. 1.0.7 rebuilt first-time project creation. 1.0.8 added the in-builder tour. 1.0.9 makes sure the first thing you feel is this is mine, and it works before any of the teaching begins.

Version 1.0.9 is now available on the App Store.

And we keep building.
